I realized as I was writing today's VDIworks article that we never published the performance videos that we recorded last year when we visited Qumranet's now Red Hat's offices in the Bay Area. The information we got is very interesting, but publication was hung up when Red Hat acquired Qumranet, and the videos got lost in the shuffle.
We did this before we stress-tested the SolidICE and XenServer-based solutions, so this has nothing to do with server sizing or anything like that. This is a simple setup with one client talking to server running a single XP virtual machine. In each scenario, we ran through the same tests and recorded what the user actually sees as well as what the CPU utilization and network bandwidth metrics within PerfMon showed.
Each of these scenarios can be viewed from within the player after it is launched:. To watch the videos, click here or on the screenshot below. During each scenario, you can click the Swap button under the small video to swap videos from small to large. It's especially useful in this case since you'll sometimes want to see the user experience in the big screen instead of staring at PerfMon for the entire segment. Please check the box if you want to proceed.
Anyway, good set of basic tests concurs with what I have done with my own testing. ICA audio sucks still. I care about bandwidth and latentcy and overall ICA wins handsdown, once you add these factors in and start to consider the number of sessions one can support. It seesm to be there are only so many tricks one can do with the protocol, and there are too many of them. That said combined with WAN accelerators I have to do more testing intiail results show improvements. It's also seems that once the ICA guys start caching comtent with their network appliances etc, they have a piece of the puzzle that nobody has that will continue to give them the edge.
I've also tested the XA beta version, and that's good also. Brain mentioned during the video you guys would post them, I can't seem to find them. Most people test with 2. We should all know by now in the world of technology the newest isn't always the best.
Keep updating, all of the bugs will wind up working out eventually. Persistence is the key to almost anything you wish to obtain in this world. It is really interesting to see the performance difference. This looks like a great selling point for this technology. Thanks for posting these results. COVID has made working from home a reality for many workers, but what is the future of remote work?

The need for internet access and a secure VMware assured admins they would see little to no effect on costs in the short term with its switch to per-core licensing, but Project Pacific introduces many new capabilities to vSphere, including centralized application management, API management and aYou indeed probably meant VPN if you want a remote desktop for your business. Flextechs is an IT service provider. If you are using this within the network, rather than remoting in from the outside, you should really checkout Dameware Mini Remote.
LogMeIn is great, but I've found that DW has a lower latency time on the admin input, and command execution. They have a module called "Remote Support" that you probably won't find helpful because the cost likely exceeds the functionality, but for SME it is great. You may also be interested using Lepide remote admin tool that is available free and allows IT Administrators to remotely administer single or multiple computers in the entire network simultaneously spread across multiple domains.

Just because you can, doesn't mean you should. You can also use any of the plethora of VNC clients available. All are good, choose the one that works best for you. A couple of other non-free options are LogMeIn and Teamviewer. Both work excellent for support and remote access.
Brand Representative for LiteManager. One is a remote access technology. The other refers to a hosted virtual instance of a server. The two are completely different concepts and never exist in an "either or" scenario.
Think of them like cars and sandwiches. You often drive a car and eat a sandwich, many times you eat a sandwich in the car while driving! Nothing about driving a car makes you unable to eat a sandwich and the nature of a sandwich is that you can easily store on in a car.

Is the solution just for your own use or for helping friends and relatives?Rahat lokum zagreb
Do you need unattended access? A solution that requires someone at the remote PC is no good if nobody is home. Do you need on-the-go access from your mobile device? If so, a good mobile client is a must. Both Windows and Mac OS have had remote desktop solutions built in for ages. Once turned on, however, both the Windows and Mac OS solution allow for unattended use.
Further, you need to know the remote IP address of the server and the login credentials for that machine. Despite the knocks it has taken in the press recently, TeamViewer is a very popular product and, Windows Remote Desktop aside, likely the most widely used remote desktop software around. One of our favorite things about TeamViewer is how flexible it is. Although Splashtop does offer similar functionality to TeamViewer, when you start to compare the products especially from a cost standpointthings add up quickly.
You can grab all of the available apps here. While Splashtop does offer a completely free option, that option is limited to using Splashtop only on your local network e. With that in mind, Splashtop might be great for connecting to computers on your local network, but it gets pricey pretty quickly when it comes to connecting to your computers away from home or the computers of your friends.
Remote desktop solutions, especially over the internet, are known for choppy and low quality visuals and typically no audio. On a high speed connection, however, you can actually watch a movie from the remote computer with little-to-no noticeable issues. When using it, you have the option to connect to your own computers which are all linked to your Google account or to set up remote sessions to the computers of friends or relatives to help them.
Chrome Remote Desktop does lack the more advanced features you find in options like TeamViewer—like file transfer and remote printing—but it makes up for it with dead simple usage.

You still have to have your friend or family member go to the webpage, download the app, run the app, and give you the ID number of their session in order for you to connect to them. At that point you might as well be sending them to download the TeamViewer client which is just as easy to download, run, and get an ID number with—but instead you get a very full featured remote desktop app instead of a screen sharing tool.

I setup Spice on this VM so that I can access it remotely. However, this machine is intended to be used by two people, I was hoping that I could have User1 access it, be greeted with the login screen, login and use the machine at will. Then at the same time, User2 would be able to launch the spice client using remote-vieweralso be greeted with a login screen, and use the machine at the same time as User2. However, what I get is, when User2 connects, User1 is disconnected immediatelly and takes over the Desktop of User1.
I searched and found some brief mentions to multi-monitor support, read about enabling ticketing setting a password for Spiceetc and thought it would lead me to the solution I want but nope.Logitech z213 not working
You can't sit two people in front of the same desktop well you can, but that's not very conventional and requires special hardware. So when the second user connects, he pretty much kicks the chair from under the first one, and takes his place. To accomplish what you want, you need to set up a terminal server on this VM and connect using the appropriate protocol.
There's a hack available that allows you to run spice as a server inside a machine, instead of providing a console from the host side, but last time I tried it, it was pretty much broken.
It's not a flashy, but you could always run a shared session over VNC - that does allow multiple connections to share the same session and display.

A data channel can be designated to operate in either clear-text, or TLS modes, allowing the administrator to tradeoff the security level vs performance.Nedi manasu nadi mata
The TLS mode provides strong encryption of all traffic transmitted on the data channel. The client would encrypt the ticket password with the public key and send the result back to the server, which would decrypt and verify the ticket. The current SPICE protocol also allows for use of the SASL authentication protocol, thus enabling support for a wide range of admin configurable authentication mechanisms, in particular Kerberos.

If you need a resolution above x pixels, other virtual graphics cards are available; however, on Linux guests, this setup often means a manual X configuration. Additionally, you must consider which protocol you should use to transfer the graphical data from the virtual machine to the client. VNC is the standard choice for a remote desktop protocol; it is widespread beyond the world of Linux and causes the least problems in production use.
One alternative to VNC, however, is the new Spice protocol, which promises superior speed and a number of additional features. For the virtual machine to see a graphics system, QEMU emulates a graphics card.
In combination with KVM, you have a choice of four models:. In the Virtual Machine Manager, you can set the desired graphics adapter in the virtual machine's detailed view Video section.
The xen graphics adapter cannot be used with KVM. The Virtual Machine Manager is only suitable for managing virtual Xen machines that support this graphics adapter. The qxl graphics adapter is available only if you select the Spice protocol in the Display tab. At the same time, VNC passes local keyboard and mouse input through to the virtual machine.
To be able to use VNC to control a virtual machine, qemu-kvm runs a VNC server, thus making the content of the virtual graphics adapter available on the network. The VNC server can only be addressed on The Virtual Machine Manager takes the settings of the Libvirt configuration file into consideration; you can also set a VNC password here.
To control the virtual machine, you need to run a VNC client on the local machine. You will typically want to use the console window of the Virtual Machine Manager for this. How To: Setup A Raspberry Pi as a Thin Client
Alternatively, you could use the vncviewervinagreor virt-viewer programs. By default, the first virtual machine to launch uses portthe second portand so on.
If you do not work with Virtual Machine Manager, you can determined the display number with the vncdisplay Virsh command. To find the right port number, just add If the host and guest system use the same keyboard layout, you will not experience any mapping problems. If this is a problem for you, you need to go to the Virtual Machine Manager's detailed view Display tab and select the keyboard layout that you need.
I don't have any hard and fast figures to quote here, but the VNC remoting seems 2x to 4x faster than spice! In both cases, I am connecting to the virtual host manager from a laptop running Ubuntu The VNC configuration on the guest used the vga display type and the spice configuration used the qxl display type.Auburn band rammer jammer

More than 6 years later, with QXL drivers installed on the guest, the subjective experience using a Windows Remote Viewer as Spice client remains the same. Maybe it is faster with Linux clients, but the Windows Remote Viewer 8.
